The Where Did My Money Go Story
We certainly can’t tell you where your money’s gone (yet), but we can share our journey
In today’s largely cashless society, it’s certainly easy to lose track of your spending, sigh over dwindling savings and wonder where all your money’s gone, when you get happy-go-lucky with swiping the old, faithful credit card or chucking things on Afterpay. But that also means that money’s going in and out, without the physicality of cash in your wallet keeping you accountable. What a pickle, hey?
With that being said, we’re not here to judge. That’s how the idea for Where Did My Money Go was sparked.
We’re here to show and teach you exactly how you can take control of your money and be intentional with your spending. Once you can organise and categorise your expenses, stick to budgets and saving goals, you’ll be able to confidently plan and prepare for your future – without stressing about where the money’s all gone!
Whether you’re saving to buy a new car, pay the rent or managing your lifestyle expenses, we’ll empower you with the financial literacy you need to successfully achieve your goals with clarity and purpose. Note that this doesn’t mean that you have to go scrimping and opting for BYO Weet-Bix over smashed avo brunches with your friends or passing on weekend getaways…It’s about finding balance and being able to enjoy life while being assured of your financial security.
Plus, it only takes as little as 5 minutes a week to keep on top of your finances. Done and dusted before your coffee fix gets cold!
From “I have no idea how much I spend on my flat white everyday” to “just show me how to efficiently track my money”, we’ll customise our financial coaching to your needs and goals without making you give up your flat white.
Plus, we’ll show you the beauty of using a personal expense and budget tracking app that’ll make your life a whole lot easier! Always compassionate and understanding, we’re here to support your big dreams and growth goals. So, tell us, where did your money go?
No idea? Fancy that, you’re in the right place – we’d love to chat!
Show me the money, Jodi!
Hello there, you soon-to-be (wise) penny pincher!
I’m Jodi and the face behind Where Did My Money Go. With over 20 years’ experience in the finance & tax industry, one might say that I’m wildly passionate about teaching families how to take control of their money and financially prepare for the future.
But being conscious about money began at an early age, with my parents being the main inspiration. From an era where single incomes were normal, mum successfully raised a busy household of five by scrupulously making the budget stretch. Though money was tight as times, they purchased a block of land to provide security for their future and we still had the pleasure of going on regular family holidays, even if it was just to camp in the tent on the block of land.
That upbringing was crucial to forming my lifelong appreciation and understanding of how important it is to be accountable for your money and learning how to save – by making the most of the money that you have, living within your means but also setting up for your future at the same time.
Speaking of enjoying the rollercoaster that we all call life, when I’m not harping on about money and budgeting tips, you’ll likely find me travelling or enjoying time out on my boat.
Always was and always will be an adventurous spirit, I get a thrill from being out in nature and spending time with my family. These days, my husband and I spend a lot of time exploring and camping in the beautiful Australian outdoors.
Anyhow, enough of me waffling on! I’m truly glad that you’re here and so excited to share my money-saving knowledge with you. I promise to keep it fun and simple, without the fuss and jargon.
You’ll walk away with financial literacy that will set you up to chase your dreams and live life with brilliant confidence.
Why Teach Money Making Skills?
As a Tax Agent, CPA and Accountant for over 20 years I have seen it all - people who save, people who spend and people who wait for their refund to come in so they can pay down the credit card they have been racking up all year. People with multiple rental properties and significant debt, those who retire early and those who have to work past retirement age because they haven’t been able to save for retirement. The ones that broke my heart were the ones who divorced and were both left with huge debts to pay, both going into bankruptcy. I thought - how can I stop this from happening in my community?
I have been teaching money skills since 2017, when I was asked by the local high school if I could teach them about budgeting and tax (and I had so much fun I was hooked!) I drafted up a rough outline of a course I could run to teach people and since then have been trying to figure out how to best reach people to teach them these skills.
In early 2019 I was told about Profit First - a way to help businesses manage their money, and keep more for themselves rather than it all being spent on bills. I looked into it and am now an award winning Certified Profit First Professional (teaching Business owners money management skills) for over 5 years.
My super power is to cut out the jargon and make things simple to explain - and as a trainer in Xero for over 10 years, people love to know my no-nonsense tips.
Since implementing the strategies I teach now, my business has now got a savings account of over $50,000 plus buffers in every account (where we used to rely on an overdraft every single year and have payment plans for debts too).
Since implementing the strategies I teach with my husband (and testing some out on him too) we have been a much happier family, with common goals, and personal interests covered, where we know we could have some time off without it impacting our day to day spending habits, and paying off 80% of a $1m mortgage in less than 4 years. While we are blessed with large incomes at this stage of life, we know what money we need to live on and the rest goes towards paying down debt, investments, and doing what we love. I want this security for you too.
